American Foxhound
- American Foxhounds are medium sized, square proportioned Scent Hounds
generally weighing 45 to 65 lbs. They come in true hound colors which
generally means, red, black-saddled red and
black and tan with variable white markings. They are noted for their hanging
soft ears as well as for their melodous voices. They bay when on trailing.
- They are active hunting dogs and are used in packs to track foxes across
country while the human hunters ride after them on horse back.
- The vast majority of Foxhounds are NOT registered with the AKC but with
a much older group called the Masters of Foxhounds.
